" In 1987 at the age of 14, I had a lower back injury which began to restrict how much dance training I could do. I was advised to try Pilates.

Arriving at the Pilates studio for the first time, I was confronted with machines and various pieces of small equipment. A Pilates instructor took me through a series of Pilates exercises and after several return sessions my back pain was gone. I went away with a better understanding of correct postural placement and functional movement patterns and I had gained strength and core control. This was my first introduction to Pilates and it changed the way I exercised. After each session I came home and wrote down the exercises I had been given and although throughout the 8 years I danced professionally I never re-entered a Pilates studio, I always returned to these exercises and used them as part of my daily warm up.

I am personally convinced that the Pilates method works and when performed correctly can be incredibly beneficial to all, whether sports professional or enthusiast or someone looking to improve their general well being."
