Common ailments of the Hand, Arm and Shoulder

Hands are truly amazing in their form, function, dexterity and sensitivity. So what happens when this goes wrong and you experience pain, discomfort and restricted range of movement? The body's muscles and connective tissue function best when they are fluid and moving freely. Discover how the upper body pathways link directly to the hands and take a closer look at common ailments of the shoulder, arm, wrist and hand.

A practical session teaching neuromuscular and myofascial release techniques to free tension and get you moving more easily again. Learn self-care exercises and take away exercises with the small health balls that can be performed anywhere to ease pain and discomfort.

'Functional Feet'  SUNDAY 6th october 2.00-4.00PM

Everything happens from the feet up!

A must for all sports enthusiasts and anyone who has ever suffered with foot or lower limb problems.

The more I learn, the more strongly I feel we must pay more attention to our feet. We squash them into ill-fitting shoes, stand for long periods of time and walk on cement pathways. Our feet are highly sensory, telling us where and how to step, but they also set up the balance of the pelvis and spine. If we stop and pay attention, we may improve back issues, hip and knee pain, and release our necks.

A practical session looking at correct alignment of the foot and lower limb, incorporating take away exercises to restore healthy foot function, improve strength, articulation and proprioception in the feet.

Learn the most common injuries and how to avoid them. Some of the injuries we will be covering: Plantar fasciitis, dropped arches, mortons neuroma, bunions, weak ankles, ankle sprains and strains.

Worksheets will be provided but please bring a pen and paper. Balls, therabands and other small props will be used in the workshop and will be available to buy at the end.

What is Qigong for Health? 
It is a powerful tool of self-healing combining a relaxed posture, with the power of breathing and intention to gain control over your Life Force Energy/Qi/Chi to enhance your quality of life and stay younger for longer. 
The moves are easy to do, a bit similar to Tai Chi. It is a wonderful way of mindfulness, entering a meditative state through flowing movements, whilst cleansing and energising your body.

1. Align with the Energies of Nature Workshop (series of seasonal workshops) SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER & SATURDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 11.00AM-1.00Pm

Do you adjust your sleep time, the food you take in, the exercises you do, according to the seasons? Your mental, emotional and physical health is affected by the energies of the Universe and how you respond to them. Every season is governed by a different element and relates to different organs. So repeating the same habits during the whole year won’t serve you well.
This series of workshops will help you to follow the rhythm of nature. It is all about aligning your being: Mind, Body and Soul through: * Gentle movement – that soothes the BODY * Focused Breathing – that calms the MIND & EMOTIONS * Flowing Meditation – that cleanses the SOUL. Cost: £27

2. Combat Lower Back Pain & Emotional Stress with Qigong Workshop SATURDAY 5th october 1.00PM-2.30pm

Do you do lots of sitting during your day at your desk, in the car, etc. and end up having lower back pain? Do you feel overwhelmed with life in general and the emotional stress causes you muscle pain, as it builds up in your lower back? This workshop is built of cleansing exercises to release toxins and emotions out of the organs, and stretching the body through movement to open the lower back area up, leaving you feeling peaceful, relaxed, focused and your pain gradually disappearing.  Cost: £20

'Understanding Sciatica'

 Do you suffer from sciatica? Learn the causes, the symptoms and how to cope with it! 

Research suggests 40% of the population will experience Sciatica at some point!
A must for all those who suffer from Sciatica – a dull, tingling or searing pain that runs along the sciatic nerve; affecting the back, gluts, lower leg and sometimes the foot.
A practical session looking at what causes sciatica and how to alleviate some of the symptoms. Take away exercises for decompressing and mobilising the spine, improving range of movement and releasing tight areas of fascia (connective tissue). Restore healthy movement patterns, correct posture and reduce built up tension.

Worksheets will be provided but please bring a pen and paper.

A must for all those who suffer from tension and pain in the head, neck and upper body. A practical session looking at functional movement of the shoulder girdle and neck areas, incorporating take away exercises to improve posture, restore healthy movement patterns, and release built up tension. Understand the causes of common injuries and how to avoid them. Learn short, daily release techniques to keep pain and restrictions at bay.
